Girl Scouts of Colorado announces a search partnership with Evergreen Executive Source, LLC to identify candidates and advise on selection of a new CEO. Evergreen is a retained search firm with depth of experience in nonprofit executive sourcing and selection, and has conducted searches nationwide for over a decade serving the interests of Girl Scout councils across the entire country. Girl Scouts of Colorado (GSCO) is one of the most dynamic, operationally profitable growth councils within the national movement. GSCO’s unique mission is “…to prepare girls and adults to create unique leadership paths, ignite change, and share a worldwide sisterhood through girl-led traditions and new experiences.” Headquartered in Denver, Colorado, GSCO is the fifth largest council territory in the nation and is recognized for its outdoor program, top cookie sales and membership growth potential.
GSCO’s 125 full time staff and 75+ seasonal statewide staff work with over 22,000 girls and more than 10,000 adult volunteers to recruit and retain membership, deliver the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, execute product program, organize retail sales, and assure the business of Girl Scouts supports the programming available to today’s girls. As the second largest cookie program in the nation, GSCO has leveraged this success to fuel innovative new outdoor programming particularly for older girls. THE CEO’S ROLE
In partnership with the Board of Directors, the CEO will serve girls and adult volunteers to reach GSCO’s full potential across Colorado. The CEO is expected to work closely with the Board to leverage local and national resources to further the Mission of Girl Scouts of Colorado. The CEO will support the diversity of membership and enhance opportunities across all communities in Colorado.
Vision & Strategic Leadership - The Chief Executive Officer is the leader of the organization, implementing a vision for GSCO that is achieved by a diverse team of high performing leaders, staff and volunteers. The CEO has ultimate accountability for the successful performance of this volunteer-led organization by providing leadership, strategic direction and vision for the development of the organization’s mission in partnership with the council’s Board of Directors. S/he provides direction and guidance to the Council in the development of goals and objectives to execute and implement the strategy within the framework of the organization’s policies and standards.
The CEO is responsible for driving the long-term strategic plan and for insuring the organization’s effectiveness, financial stability and growth. The CEO will collaborate, partner, advise, recommend, and assist the council’s Board of Directors in the formulation of policies governing the council and implement the policies and directives of the Board.
The CEO acts as the identifiable leader of GSCO to promote Colorado market visibility and passionately advocates throughout the community on behalf of the brand. S/he works in collaboration with the national organization (GSUSA) to promote the Girl Scouts’ public policy agenda and position GSCO as the premier voice for girls throughout Colorado.
Organizational Operations - The CEO is responsible for GSCO’s human, material and fiscal assets. S/he directs the overall day-to-day operations of the council and provides guidance and direction to the management team. The CEO works collaboratively to build an organizational culture and infrastructure to ensure a high-quality experience for all girl and adult members across the state. The CEO is responsible for all aspects of internal and external operations; including Mission Delivery, Community Relations, Finance and Administration, and Board Relations. The CEO will have responsibility for a $14 million budget, $12 million of which comes from the Girl Scout cookie/product programs.
The CEO partners with the Board of Directors and management team to develop the council’s operating budget and overall long-term financial plan. S/he is responsible for providing executive oversight of the council’s financial operations and ensuring the timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and financial trends to assist the Board in exercising their fiduciary responsibilities.
Relationship Building - In partnership with the Chair of the GSCO Board of Directors, the CEO is responsible for supporting and enhancing the Board’s governance activities; including meetings, retreats, committee and ad hoc work plans, communications, Board recruitment, orientation, assessment and development.
The CEO ensures that council affairs are conducted in a manner consistent with corporate and charter requirements, as well as federal, state, and local laws and regulations. S/he works in partnership with the Board Chair to manage the due diligence process to ensure timely attention to critical issues.
The CEO also partners with the national organization (GSUSA) to carry out the Girl Scout Mission, to address Charter obligations, and to obtain advice and/or consulting services, information, and resources.

GSCO offers a competitive compensation and benefits plan with an annual compensation plan commensurate with experience. Relocation assistance, if needed, is negotiable.
