On the topic of "THE RESUME".
After reading many tens of thousands of resumes a few things jump to mind:
1. Resumes will likely be read by a machine as well as a human being. The machine doesn't care about the look and feel of the resume, but the human being surely does. Design your resume to satisfy the needs of the human reader, and the machine will still be satisfied, but the reverse is not necessarily true.
2. Write your resume so that the context of your experience is readily apparent. Use metrics to describe the scope of your job, i.e., budgets and number of staff supervised, etc. Avoid percentages unless you accompany them with underlying numbers. Dates of service are important to denote the context of your experience, but if you don't want to give away your age, then just give dates for the past 10-15 years and leave prior experience more general. Bottom line: give information to the reader that will help keep you in the "in box".
