THE OPPORTUNITY
Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England announces a search for CEO to lead the council to provide Girl Scouting’s pre-eminent programming to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Membership is for girls ages 5-17. All Girl Scout world-class leadership development programs and activities – from camping to computing, arts to engineering, service projects to field trips – are designed to challenge and prepare girls for a future of leadership and achievement.
The CEO serves as the council’s top official, accountable for providing leadership, strategic direction, and vision for the development and achievement of the council’s mission in collaboration with its Board of Directors. The CEO will provide leadership for the corporate tactical planning process by directing the formulation, integration, and implementation of short-term, mid-term, and long range operating objectives and actions needed to achieve the council’s strategic plan. In addition, the CEO will ensure that pluralism is institutionalized within the council’s activities and functions, promoting non-discrimination in every aspect of Girl Scouting.
Responsible for stewardship of the council’s human, material and fiscal assets, the CEO provides oversight for policies and practices that enhance the participation of members and roles of staff and volunteers. Of critical importance is the continued strengthening of the visibility of the council and community awareness of the Girl Scout brand, as well as membership initiatives that effectively engage girls, families, and volunteers in the council’s service area.
The CEO’s important outward-facing responsibilities are to network and build relationships with corporate, nonprofit, governmental, funding communities and the general public, which expand the council’s visibility and create opportunities for significant membership growth and financial support by ensuring that investing in girls is a priority. Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England serves more than 6,500 girls in grades K-12 in partnership with 2,500 adult volunteers and more than 30 staff. The council’s operating budget is $4-million. The council office is located in a state of the art facility at 500 Greenwich Avenue in Warwick and includes a large, bright Girl Scout shop. The council is particularly proud of the Girl Leadership Experience Center, a girl-led hub of creativity, connectivity, exploration, and inspiration. It also owns four beautiful camp properties, carefully maintained by property staff for the benefit of the girls, alumnae, adult volunteers, and the community at large.
